Helsinki, Tampere and Turku Police Male Voice Choirs and Helsinki Police Band
In early 2015 Helsinki Police Male Voice Choir came up with an idea of a Police Record. The idea was presented to Helsinki Police Band as well as Police Male Voice Choirs in Tampere and Turku. The record was ready at the end of 2016 to celebrate 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence in 2017.
The record aims to present a versatile, patriotic and also modern view of Finnish Police Music.
It contains two first recordings: Leevi Madetoja’s forgotten Kansanvalta (Democracy) from 1912 and the Ceremonial March for the Finnish Police: Commissarius.
In addition, the record includes Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, On hetki by Rauno Lehtinen and Romanssi by Nils-Erik Fougstedt. A different kind of, more entertaining music is provided in Paradise by Rauli “Badding” Somerjoki, Pidä huolta by Pave Maijanen and Poliisi (orig. Molina) by Creedence Clearwater Revival or CCR.

A Finnish Ballad
Helsinki Police Male Voice Choir and Helsinki Police Band
To commemorate the choir’s 60th anniversary, Helsinki Police Male Voice Choir commissioned the five-part work for male voice choir and wind orchestra ”A Finnish Ballad” from Finnish composer Jukka Linkola. The tracks in the album create a versatile picture of the 20th century in Finland. The premiere took place at the Anniversary Concert in 2003.
